St. Stephen the First Martyr Church - Sanford, NC - Parish Plan OUR MISSION To live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, worship with unity in our Catholic tradition and reach out to all who seek God’s love. PASTOR’S VISION St. Stephen Parish welcomes all who seek to know God’s love and discover his will. We are home to 4,000 registered members and an additional 5,000 Catholics who are not registered but who look to the parish to meet their spiritual needs. Compelled by the example of Christ, we will not limit our vision, but reach out to all who are in need. Guided by the Spirit, our ministries of worship, education and outreach will remain faithful to Catholic tradition. FINANCIAL ENVIRONMENT Our parish continues to operate in a challenging financial environment due to high unemployment and the death of several generous parishioners. Our offertory, the principal source of operating income, has declined for the past two consecutive fiscal years. During the past year giving for the care of the poor markedly increased. We are fortunate to have retired our mortgage; however we need to put aside substantial funds for the foreseeable future in order to get to a position where we can build a church. Faced with these challenges, our current budget seeks to hold expenses in check. During this fiscal year we will endeavor to enhance offertory income and increase savings for future development. We recognize that construction of a parish church will necessarily await the completion of an anticipated diocesan campaign to build a cathedral.
