Besides leading communal prayer as psalmist, our cantors also serve to encourage and support the singing of the assembly. Cantors must be understood as pray-ers first, singers second and finally as leaders of song. The prerequisites are simple: an ability to carry a tune with clearly understood words, a sense of commitment, and a willingness to serve your community. Anyone from high school through retirement is welcome. In this ministry, your commitment will be both meaningful and fulfilling and will contribute immeasurably to the liturgical life of the parish. We provide a Cantor Training
Program for anyone interested in getting involved in
our Music Ministry. Training time varies in length depending on each individuals
experience level. Training involves time spent ministering with an
experienced cantor and includes opportunities to rehearse one on one with the
Director of Music. Membership in the choir is not required to serve as a cantor.
Operation of necessary sound equipment, movement through the liturgy and gesture
for the leading of the assembly are included in training.
